Idiot quote of the day

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

from Marc Rubin, the NY Obama Administration Examiner (and first class moron)

Of course the problem with that line of thinking is that there is no  2nd amendment right to own a gun, and that is not in dispute among anyone who knows the constitution which admittedly leaves out at least 3/4 of the members of Congress and probably half the states attorneys general in the country .

The fact that there are so many people ignorant of what the 2nd amendment means and who insist on repeating the myth  that the 2nd amendment has anything to do with an individual right to own a gun doesn’t make it so.

What is so interesting about those who are so ignorant of the 2nd amendment is that it spans the entire political spectrum from ultra liberal Jerry Brown to conservatives like Bob Barr, from President Obama and Jimmy Carter to Newt Gingrich and Lou Dobbs.

Marc,  you forgot to mention all nine justices of the Supreme Court of the United States in your list of people “so ignorant of the 2nd amendment”.

If you can’t win fair, win dirty….

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

At least that’s what some Obama supporters seem to think.

The NRA-ILA sent out a notice that Obama supporters are intentionally trying to mislead NRA members.

Dear Thomas,
It has come to our attention that with Halloween upon us, the Barack Obama campaign and its allies are up to dirty political tricks.

NRA members in key presidential battleground states have informed us they have received deliberately misleading phone calls from someone professing to represent the NRA, asking voters to support Barack Obama. This is an absolute and intentional lie.

NRA has long been on record as opposing Barack Obama, as Barack Obama has long been on record as opposing the rights of law-abiding gun owners. For example, Barack Obama:

-Voted to allow the prosecution of citizens who use a firearm for self-defense in the home (Illinois Senate, S.B. 2165. 3/25/04);

- Voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to put America’s firearms industry out of business (S.397, vote 219, 7/29/05);

- Voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting (United States Senate, S. 397, vote 217, 7/29/05);

- Supported a 500% increase in federal taxes on guns and ammunition (Chicago Defender, 12/13/99);

- Voted to ban hundreds of rifles and shotguns commonly used for hunting, including single-shot, over-under and side-by-side shotguns (Illinois Senate SB 1195, 3/13/03); and,

- Proposed restrictions that would close 90% or more of all gun stores in the U.S. (Chicago Defender, 12/13/99).

For more information on the TRUTH about Barack Obama’s hostility toward the Second Amendment, please visit www.GunBanObama.com.

If you receive a call to this effect, please know that it is a deliberate attempt by Barack Obama supporters to mislead gun owners. Our opponents know that you can make the difference in this election, and they’ll stop at nothing to try and deceive you!

Thank you for your support, and remember to “Vote Freedom First!” on November 4th.

Sincerely,
Chris W. Cox
Executive Director, NRA-ILA

The Hunt for a Concealed Carry Pistol

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Now that the wife has applied for her CPL (Concealed Pistol License).  The search for the perfect carry gun is in full swing.  So far after handling about 40 different makes and models, she’s narrowed it down to the Kimber Ultra Carry in 9mm.  She would have to pick the most expensive one in the lot.  Of course, she hasn’t shot any of them yet, so that could change.  But if she does get the Kimber, it wouldn’t exactly break my heart if it didn’t work out for her.  I’m a big fan of the Kimber 1911’s, and I’m sure I could put it to good use.  I wish she would consider the Pro Carry instead of the Ultra.  The  extra 1″ on the bbl will make a big difference in shootability, especially if I convince her to go with the .45 instead of the 9mm.

In the end, it’s her choice, and I will only veto that decision if it’s obvious that it’s not the right weapon (no snubbies or pocket guns).

Speaking of concealed carry

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

After badgering my wife off and on for the better part of a year, she finally went down to the courthouse and made application for her concealed carry permit.  It should be here within 30 days.

Washington is a funny place when it comes to guns.  It’s one of the friendliest gun-unfriendly states that I’ve seen.   What does that mean you ask?

Friendly because:

  1. State Constitution strengthens your 2nd Amendment right.
SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.
  2. Shall issue state.  This means that if you meet the criteria, they WILL issue a permit to carry a concealed pistol.  Basicly you just have to be 21, have a felony (and a few specific gross-misdemeanors) free record, and must be legal to possess a firearm.  No classes/training require.
  3. Open carry state.  There is no law banning open carry in Washington.  Although some LEO’s don’t seem to know this, or choose to ignore this.
  4. Preemption.  Local government cannot pass their own gun laws.  The exceptions are the state has granted county/city governments to control where firearms can be discharged, and allow banning firearms in convention centers/stadiums.
  5. Concealed carry permit allows you to carry (concealed) on school grounds to drop off and pick up your kids.  You cannot however carry into the school itself.
  6. You can carry just about anywhere except, secured area of courthouse/jail (state law requires that they provide lock boxes for you), secured area of an airport, any portion of an establishment that the liquor control board does not allow minors (you can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol, but not in the bar).
  7. Concealed carry permit allows you to carry loaded pistol in the a vehicle.
  8. No Assault Weapon Ban.
  9. Home of the 2nd Amendment foundation.

Unfriendly because

  1. No full-auto weapons.
  2. No short-barreled weapons rifles/shotguns.
  3. Sound Suppressors allowed, but is a felony discharge a firearm with one.  (I know, I know, that’s just goofy as hell)
  4. State department of ecology is trying to ban lead ammo.
  5. It’s a “democratic” state.  Lots of liberals on the west side that you have to put up with.
  6. Getting harder and harder to find a good place to shoot.

All in all, it’s a good place for shooters, but not the best.

Obama on Concealed Carry

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Once again, more proof has surfaced that Obama is lying through his teeth when he says he supports the 2nd Amendment.  Steven at Bucks Right has audio of an Obama interview where he states that he supports a federal ban on CCW.

But don’t worry, he won’t take your guns.

Yeah, right.

Obama and the Attempt to Destroy the Second Amendment

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

If you listen to the main stream media, they would have you believe that Obama is a staunch supporter of the second amendment.  However, his record clearly shows that if he wins the election next week, he will be the most anti-second amendment President in the history of this country.  And he’s not just against it philosophically, he’s taken very active part in the anti-2nd amendment movement.  He’ll say anything just to get elected, so you can’t trust his words. Instead, you have to look at his record.

Here is an article titled Obama and the Attempt to Destroy the Second Amendment that I’ve found written by noted 2nd Amendment scholar and lawyer David T. Hardy that sheds some light on the great lengths taken by Obama to subvert the 2nd amendment.

David said it best “Voters who value the Constitution should ask whether someone who was party to that plan should be nominating future Supreme Court justices.”

Please read the article, and pass it on to everyone you know.

Ultimate AR-15 Build (Part 7)

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

It’s done!  I finally got all the pieces put together.

One nice thing about building the gun yourself is all the goodies that comes along with it.  In the picture above, you can see some of the schwag that alot of the firearms accessory dealers and manufacturers are sending out with the product. There still isn’t any optics mounted yet.  I haven’t decided yet exactly what I really want to get yet.  I do have a Leupold 3-9×40 rifleman sitting on the shelf collecting dust, so I think for now, I’ll get a LaRue SPR mount for Leupold and slap it on. There was one last minute change I made to the rifle.  I was running the standard single stage trigger that came in the RRA  lower parts kit, but I wasn’t happy with it at all.  Too gritty, too much creep.   I was hoping to hold out for a nice 2 stage setup like the giselle or maybe even the new AR Gold trigger, but it was not to be.  I ended up picking up a RRA 2-stage NM trigger.  It’s not what I was looking for, but I’m actually very happy with the results.  The takeup is smooth, and the break is very clean and crisp.  I would guestimate it’s breaking around 4-5 lbs. At the range, I quickly realized it’s been a very long time since I’ve shot iron sights at long ranges.   My eyes simply are not as good as they used to be.  On the 100 yard range, using cheap federal bulk 55g FMJ-BT, the best group (30 rounds) I could get was about 4".   Between my crappy eyes, and the cheap ammo, there was little chance of me doing any better.    I’m going to have to get some glass mounted on it to really figure out what the true potential of this rifle.  All in all I’m very pleased with with the results.

Ultimate AR-15 Build (Part 6)

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Got the parts that I ordered this week.  The DD Lite rail is simply beautiful, except for one thing.  It’s an AR-10 rail, not an AR-15 rail.  Damnit, they sent me the wrong one.  A quick email to Bravo Company USA got things straightened out.  They are sending the correct part with a return label for the AR-10 rail.  It’s a little frustrating, but it was an honest mistake, and they were quick to correct the problem.

The BCM extractor spring upgrade is a stout unit.  So much so that you will not get it installed without some serious clamping pressure on the extractor (like a good pair of pliers with padded jaws) when trying to align the pin holes in the extractor with the carrier.

To my releif, the DPMS claw action vise block fits the lefty upper just fine.  The only thing I had to do to it was create a little notch on the left side so that the upper receiver can sit on it with the dust cover closed.   Nothing  a little dremel work can’t fix.

The magpul enhanced trigger guard installed without a hitch.  I much prefer this trigger guard to the standard swing down guard.

Now with the finish line  so close, I simply couldn’t resist ordering the last of the parts to get it running.  So I placed an order with LaRue Tactical today for a low profile gas block,  Troy folding iron sight, and 5 more magpul pmags.

 Previous total: $1830
+ Troy Sights – $250
+ Gas Block – $69

New total  $2159

Almost time to start thinking about optics.  My plan is to go with either an EOTech 557 + 4x Magnifier or an Aimpoint M4s with 3x magnifier.  That is still the plan, but in the meantime, I’m tempted to get a LaRue Tactical spr mount for the Leupold  3-9×40 rifleman that I have sitting around.

Team WA AR-15 Lowers

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

With the political climate the way it is, and the uncertainty of what will really happen in November, I’ve been considering picking up a few more lower receivers “just in case”.  I was planning on waiting for the dust to settle from the current build, but today on AR-15.com I noticed that Rainier Arms is considering having another run done of the Team WA lowers.  I don’t think I’ll be able to pass this one up.
